Getting other quotes? Here is how to compare plumbers fairly

It is smart to compare

Getting more than one quote for a non-emergency plumbing job is a reasonable thing to do, and we would rather you compare fairly than pick blind. Here is how to make an apples-to-apples comparison between us and any other plumber you are considering.

Ask every company the same questions

  • What is your trip and diagnostic fee, and does it change by time of day?
  • What is your standard hourly labor rate, and is there a minimum?
  • Is the estimate itemized by parts and labor, or a single bundled number?
  • What warranty do you offer on labor, and is it in writing on the invoice?
  • Are you licensed and insured, and can you provide your license number?

Our answers, for reference

Our trip and diagnostic fee is $89 during the day (7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday) and $149 after hours, nights, Sundays, and major holidays, waived if you approve the repair same visit. Labor is $189 per hour with a one-hour minimum, and 1.5x for after-hours emergency work. Every quote is itemized and written before work starts. We carry a 2-year labor warranty, written on the invoice. Our California C-36 license number is CSLB 1084452, and we are bonded and insured.

Watch for vague numbers

A quote that will not specify a diagnostic fee, or a company that will not put a price in writing before starting work, is harder to hold accountable later. This applies whether the quote comes from a large national call-center brand or a small local outfit. A clear, written, itemized quote protects you either way.

What we will not do

We will not tell you we can beat any competitor's price without seeing the job ourselves, and we will not promise a lifetime warranty or a free estimate on an emergency call, because those are not honest claims for us to make. What we can promise is a same-day local response on the Westside, a written price before any work, and a straightforward two-year labor warranty behind everything we do.
