What the $89 trip and diagnostic fee covers (and when it is $149)
Updated Sep 6, 2026
What the fee covers
Every dispatched visit includes a trip and diagnostic fee. This covers our technician driving out to you, inspecting the problem, and giving you a written price for the repair before any work begins. It is not a deposit toward the repair unless you approve the repair on that same visit, in which case the fee is waived entirely.
When it is $89
The $89 rate applies to standard daytime appointments: 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday. This is our normal, published rate for a scheduled visit during regular business hours.
When it is $149
The $149 rate applies to after-hours dispatch: nights from 6 p.m. to 7 a.m., all day Sunday, and these holidays: New Year's Day, July 4th, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. This higher rate reflects the cost of having a technician on call around the clock, every day of the year, for true emergencies.
Why we charge a diagnostic fee at all
A trip and diagnostic fee lets us give you an honest, specific written price instead of a rough phone estimate. Many plumbing problems look similar over the phone but have very different causes and costs once a technician actually looks at the pipes, the fixture, or the line. Charging for that inspection, and being upfront about the cost, is part of how we keep our written prices accurate.
What is not included
- The repair itself, which is quoted separately once diagnosed.
- Parts, which are itemized on your written quote.
- Labor beyond diagnosis, billed at $189 per hour with a one-hour minimum, or 1.5x for after-hours emergency labor.
How to avoid surprises
Ask which time window you are booking into when you schedule, since that determines whether the $89 or $149 rate applies. If a same-day emergency call happens to land during business hours, you get the $89 rate; if a routine call happens to be the only slot available at night, the $149 rate applies. We will always tell you which rate applies before dispatching, not after.
We do not waive the diagnostic fee as a sales tactic, and we do not advertise "free estimates" for anything beyond this published trip fee, including emergencies. What we do offer is a fee that is waived automatically the moment you approve a repair, so you are never paying twice to get work done.
