Will homeowners insurance cover this? What we can and cannot do

Updated Sep 6, 2026

We are not your insurance company

We get this question often, especially after a leak or a burst pipe: will homeowners insurance cover the repair? We are not able to make that call for you, since coverage depends entirely on your specific policy, your insurer, and the cause of the damage. What we can do is help you document the situation so that if you choose to file a claim, you have solid information to work with.

What we can provide

  • A detailed written invoice describing the problem found and the repair performed.
  • Photos of the damage or failed part when it is useful and practical to take them.
  • Plain-language explanation of what likely caused the failure, to the extent our diagnosis supports that.

Ask your technician for this documentation at the time of service if you think you may file a claim; it is much easier to gather this while we are already on-site than to request it afterward.

What we cannot do

We cannot bill your insurance company directly, guarantee that a claim will be approved, or tell you how your specific policy defines "sudden and accidental" damage versus gradual wear, which is a common distinction insurers use. Those determinations come from your insurer, based on your policy language and their own adjuster's review.

Payment still happens at time of service

Regardless of whether you plan to file a claim, payment for our work is due at completion using one of our standard methods: Visa, Mastercard, American Express, or debit. If the job is $1,000 or more, our 6-month same-as-cash option is available so you are not waiting on a claim decision to move forward with a needed repair.

A practical tip

If you suspect a covered event, like a sudden pipe burst rather than a slow, long-term leak, mention that to your technician before we start so we can be thoughtful about documenting the scene. Acting quickly to stop damage, using your shutoff valve, is still the right first move even if you plan to file a claim; insurers generally expect reasonable steps to limit further damage regardless of coverage.
